This butter crock was designed for 1 stick of butter to be packed in the center well and a small troff of water to surround it with the outside ring to create the seal. Butter can safely last up to two weeks, and sometimes longer, out  on the counter rather than pulling that hard cold butter out of the fridge. Make sure to keep the troff filled with water and clean your butter crock after each use for best results.
